How to play Candy Path

Candy Path is a path puzzle. You draw a single line through a grid of squares. The rules fit in four sentences.

The goal

Draw one line that starts on the number 1, visits the numbers in order, and covers every square of the board. When the last square is filled, you have solved the level.

The rules

  1. Start on the number 1.
  2. Move from square to square: up, down, left or right. No diagonals.
  3. Reach the numbers in order: 1, then 2, then 3, and so on. The highest number is where the line ends.
  4. Fill every square. Each square is used exactly once. The line never crosses itself.

Examples

Here is a small 3 by 3 board with the numbers 1 to 4.

1234
Correct. The line goes 1, 2, 3, 4 and fills all nine squares.
1234
Not solved. One square is left empty. Every square has to be filled.
1234
Wrong order. The line reached 3 before 2. Numbers must come in order.

Controls

  • Draw: press on the number 1 and drag your finger (or mouse) across the squares.
  • Undo: drag back over your own line to take it back, square by square.
  • Carry on: lift your finger and press on the end of your line to continue.
  • Hints: in the app, the light bulb shows you the next part of the path.

Daily puzzle and journey

The app has two ways to play. The daily puzzle is one new board every day, the same for everybody. Solve it to build a streak. The journey is a map through the candy kingdom with levels that get a little trickier as you go. Later levels add new pieces such as doors, levers, portals and one-way arrows. The game shows you how each piece works the first time you meet it.

Try it now

You do not need the app to practise. The daily puzzle on this site works in your browser, on phones and computers. If you get stuck, read our tips and strategy.

Quick questions

Can the line cross itself?

No. The line goes through every square exactly once, so it never crosses or touches itself.

Do I have to start at 1?

Yes. The line always starts on the number 1 and ends on the highest number.

Does the order of the squares matter?

Only the numbers have an order. Between two numbers you can take any route, as long as every square ends up covered.

Is there always a solution?

Yes. Every Candy Path puzzle is built from a complete path, so a solution always exists.
